Research Topics and SignificanceThe Intelligent Dexterity (InDex) Lab focuses on pioneering research in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. The Lab’s research spans several high‑impact areas:
- Deep Reinforcement Learning & Vision‑Language‑Action (VLA) Models
- Dexterous Robotic Manipulation
- Human‑Robot Interaction & Teleoperation
- Multi‑Modal Perception & Simulation‑to‑Real Transfer

The InDex Lab is recruiting multiple PhD students for Fall 2026. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and NVIDIA, the lab offers:
- State‑of‑the‑art robotics platforms including robotic arms, dexterous hands, quadrupeds, UAVs, and mobile robots
- Two dedicated lab spaces: a 1200 sqft active lab and a brand‑new lab over 2000 sqft under construction
- High‑performance AI training infrastructure, including a server with 4× NVIDIA RTX 6000 PRO 96 GB GPUs
- Dedicated workstations with RTX 5090 GPUs for every PhD student
Ideal applicants have a strong academic background and research interest in one of the following areas: robotics, artificial intelligence, computer science, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering. Successful candidates should possess:
- A passion for robotics, AI, and intelligent systems
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Experience with programming, machine learning, or robotics platforms is highly desirable
