Engineering Lab Technician (Engineering Technology)

Location:

Marietta, Georgia | Regular | Full‑time | Job

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair engineering lab equipment and keep accurate records.
  • Prepare lab equipment for courses, purchase parts, and manage inventories.
  • Assist students and faculty with fabrication of components, lab projects, and research parts.
  • Maintain inventory and help enforce safety practices; provide training.
  • Complete periodic training courses and maintain technical knowledge of fabrication and maintenance.
  • Guide safe equipment operation and implement laboratory procedures.
  • Support the College by fabricating and repairing university equipment.
  • Work 10‑30% of the week across multiple departments on college‑related tasks.
  • Procure components and materials for fabrication, assembly, and repair.
  • Manage spare‑parts inventory and enforce general laboratory organization and cleanliness.
  • Required Qualifications Educational Requirements
    • Associate’s, technical, vocational, or related degree/certificate from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Current, valid, and unrestricted driver’s license.
    Required Experience
    • None.
    Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational Qualifications
    • Advanced degree in a related field.
    • Certificate in an engineering technology field relevant to the discipline.
    Preferred Experience
    • Previous related industrial experience.
    • Experience working with customers and/or in higher education.
    • Two years of related work experience.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Abilities
    • Handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
    Knowledge
    • Extensive knowledge of appropriate safety standards.
    • Knowledge of basic programming and equipment relevant to the assigned area.
    • Knowledge of engineering materials and proper specifications for components.
    Skills
    • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem‑solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time‑management, project‑management, and presentation skills.
    • Proficient with computer applications (Microsoft Office, CAD/CAM software).
    • Strong attention to detail and follow‑up skills.
    • Strong customer service and phone/email etiquette.
