Department InformationDEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Setting up genetic crosses
- Processing samples for morphological analysis
- Collecting and analyzing data
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*:
- Drosophila husbandry
- Cryosectioning
- Immunofluorescence analysis
- Confocal Microscopy
- Polymerase Chain Reaction and Isolation nucleic acids
Performs independent research in the field of study. Provides technical support for research activities. Responsible for supervising undergraduate students engaged in research.
This position is considered limited-term staff since itutilizes contingent funding, which is currently only securedthrough June 30, 2027. Employment thereafter will be conditionalbased on the continued availability of funding.
ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engages in research activity: design and perform experiments, record and analyze data
- Assists in the preparation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts
- Supervises undergraduate research projects
- Assists with laboratory maintenance and organization
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the area of study
Required Experience
One (1) year relevant experience doing independent research in areaof study
Preferred QualificationsPreferred Experience
- Experience training and supervising undergraduate students
- Experience in writing and preparing scientific manuscripts
Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Able to deal with multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of scientific principles, laboratory safety practices, laboratory terminology, equipment, materials, and procedures and laboratory methods relating to field of study
SKILLS
Responsible and professional;
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills;
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (e.g., Microsoft Office, Graph Pad Prism, Adobe and/or Corel Graphics, other field related programs);
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills;
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
