What you will do

The Food Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for the day‑to‑day operation of the cheese department at the Tillamook plant for efficient operations. Responsibilities include assisting in managing the department, managing payroll, scheduling, GMPs, SOPs, safety, sanitation, equipment operation, and troubleshooting and solving problems with processing equipment and work orders.

Here’s a day in the life
  • Supervise the production of cheese from receipt of milk through production, maximizing yields and maintaining a cost‑efficient operation.
  • Ensure all SOPs are followed.
  • Assign and track work orders.
  • Communicate production goals to the crew.
  • Review daily production data and maintain priority balance; organize and prepare efficiency summaries.
  • Ensure proper sanitation techniques for production equipment.
  • Report all exceptions to product or ingredient quality as appropriate.
  • Work with operators to troubleshoot and resolve equipment and production issues.
  • Implement corrective plans, determine causes, and oversee corrective actions.
  • Utilize labor and packaging supplies cost‑effectively to control costs.
  • Oversee the 6S initiative.
  • Manage day‑to‑day performance of cheese operators to ensure proper procedures.
  • Champion the department’s World Class Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Ensure employees are trained and cross‑trained fairly and efficiently.
  • Address performance issues promptly and confidentially.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to enhance performance.
  • Build teamwork through respect, cooperation, and information sharing.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA, OSDA, FDA, and other regulatory product safety requirements.
  • Establish manufacturing quality control point testing and measures.
  • Review previous day’s production and laboratory cheese analysis reports.
  • Maintain relationships with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and engineering teams.
  • Interview, hire, train, assign, appraise, reward, discipline, and resolve employee complaints.
  • Communicate effectively at all company levels.
  • Work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate excellent time‑management skills and work independently with little supervision.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • High school diploma or GED required;
    Bachelor’s degree is a plus or a combination of experience and education.
  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience managing a manufacturing operation with supervisory experience.
  • Weekend and off‑shift work is required; duties include repetitive motion and lifting up to 45 pounds.
