Overview
Be a part of the initial team to grow and operate a regionally significant new underground mine development that is rapidly becoming the future of the iconic Red Lake gold mining district in Ontario, Canada. Reporting to the Mine Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting daily accounting operations, processing transactions, and maintaining accurate financial records. This role is well-suited for someone who is organized, analytical, and interested in growing their accounting career.
The Accounting Assistant will work locally on a 5-2/4-3 schedule.
- Process invoices, payments, and expense reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain and update accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
- Prepare and process bank deposits.
- Reconcile bank statements and vendor accounts.
- Assist with data entry into accounting software and spreadsheets.
- Help prepare monthly financial reports and statements.
- Maintain filing systems for financial documents and records.
- Assist in the preparation of payroll.
- Respond to vendor inquiries and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Support internal audits and assist with inventory tracking or petty cash, as needed.
- Perform general administrative and clerical duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education in Accounting or Business Administration is preferred).
- 1–2 years of experience in a similar accounting or clerical role (co-op/internship acceptable).
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Mining operations experience is highly preferred.
- Able to interpret, apply and explain applicable laws, codes, regulations and ordinances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounting software.
- Ability to work well in a team.
