Responsibilities
Data Acquisition and Management:
Conduct reviews and quality control/quality assurance of data.
Support preparation of reports and deliverables
Participate in development of internal work plans, field procedures, and governance documentation
Support internal field work programs, including groundwater sampling and environmental monitoring activities
Participate in workshops and training activities, including occasional travel to NWMO’s head office in Toronto, Ontario
Field Logistics & Health & Safety Focus:
Support inventory tracking and organization of warehouse materials, tools, and safety equipment.
Assist with preparation and distribution of field safety documentation (e.g., JSAs, permits, toolbox talks).
Support onboarding logistics for field staff and contractors, including PPE issuance tracking and orientation scheduling support.
Assist with HSSE records management (incident reports, training records, inspection logs).
Support preparation for emergency response drills and site readiness activities.
Assist with field, warehouse, and office inspections and observations (data collection and documentation support under supervision).
Support coordination of site training logistics (room setup, attendance tracking, materials preparation).
To the extent of time allows beyond the duties described above, the student may be assigned to support additional Site Characterization activities based on business needs.
Qualifications and Experience
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills
Interest in conducting outdoor field work
Strong attention to detail and numeracy skills
Strong communication skills
Aptitude for technical writing
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with other project stakeholders.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel
Willingness to be based at the designated site for the duration of the placement
Preferred
Enrollment in post-secondary environmental science, geology, environmental engineering, occupational health & safety, engineering technology, construction management, or related field.
Interests in environmental monitoring, geoscience, fieldwork, safety management, or large infrastructure project environments.
Familiarity with basic inventory tracking or warehouse operations.
Valid driver's licence (asset, not required).
