Telecommunications Specialist– Job Description Summary
The Telecommunications Specialist reports to the Network Manager and works with the Cable Plant Specialist, Network and Service Desk Teams.
He or she works with senior KNet management to design and develop the cellular, RF and, fibre optic systems. This includes providing support, responding to queries, document changes, travel to approved jobs and assist with testing, assessment, diagnosis and resolution of telecommunication systems incidents. Under the direct supervision of the KNet Network Manager, he or she develops a telecommunication services support program.
MajorDuties & Responsibilities
- Performing telecommunication systems support for customers as requested and approved.
- Developing telecommunication and support training for KNet staff and customer technicians.
- Design, quote and build telecom systems, cellular tower builds and expansions as requested and approved.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Provides timely and accurate response to assigned tasks
- Demonstrates capacity to adapt and learn in a dynamic work environment
- Manages time effectively and responds to requests to work flexible hours
- Is punctual and regularly attends work
- University degree or college diploma in computing or information technology or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- 10+ years’ experience working as a technician or specialist for a medium to large enterprise with complex technology environments.
- Working knowledge of computer systems, peripherals, and communications equipment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and the Teams environment
- Working knowledge of computer networking, cellular, RF, fibre optic and cabling infrastructure.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment to resolve issues and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and under own initiative.
- Ability to communicate effectively with KNet employees as well as vendors and suppliers.
- Ability to write documentation and training materials.
- Self motivated to learn and acquire new skills.
- Poses excellent problem solving skills.
- Understands industry standard safety practices and procedures for electrical/electronic equipment and hazardous material exposure.
