The Security department has an opening for a Full‑Time Security Guard. The successful candidate must be able to meet the normal requirements of the job and possess the following qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY- Graduate of Community College Law and Security / Police Foundations program, or graduate of a recognized Emergency Services training facility, and/or 3‑5 years of experience in Tactical Security or Healthcare Security.
- Valid Security Guard License.
- Valid Ontario G Class Driver's License.
- 3 years of previous experience in dealing with the public in a law enforcement / Security role – preferred.
- Use of Force and Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention training is considered an asset.

- Physically able to perform the essential duties of this role, including standing for long periods, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting and moving/transferring patients.
- Testing will be based off of the PIN test, requiring a 75% minimum score, and includes push‑ups, flexibility, core endurance and a 2.4 km run.

- Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English to communicate with staff, patients, contractors and visitors.

- Commitment to professional appearance and ensuring a clean and functional uniform.
- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position as directed by the Security Coordinator or designate.
Security Guards at Riverside Health Care facilities will report directly to the Security Coordinator and be responsible for ensuring a healthy and safe environment for the hospital staff, patients, volunteers, physicians and visitors. They will monitor the buildings and grounds for hazards and respond appropriately. They will perform all duties to the highest standards in a courteous, effective and professional manner at all times.
SPECIFICDUTIES
- Attend departmental briefings and report any incidents or concerns concerning the last shift.
- Accurately maintain and keep notebooks, security logs and incident reports.
- Report and record all events regarding unauthorized personnel.
- Report and record all events regarding criminal acts, misconduct and breaches of policy and procedures.
- Patrol all buildings, hallways, entrance ways, stairwells and grounds of LVGH.
- Maintain situational awareness during patrols and interactions with all people.
- Observe and report any defects or hazards to the Security Manager or Maintenance.
- Work in conjunction with law enforcement and government agencies.
- Attend court or legal proceedings when required.
- Enforce no‑smoking policy for staff, patients and visitors.
- Monitor and patrol the exterior grounds and parking areas.
- Conduct security escorts for staff to and from parking when requested.
- Respond quickly to hospital codes and maintain communications.
- Assist staff in the use of the PINEL restraint system as required.
- Monitor Form 1 patients if deemed a threat or flight risk.
- Follow procedures for complete searches of belongings to prevent contraband while adhering to proper procedures and laws.
- Monitor CCTV for unusual activity.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Maintain required training certifications:
Use of Force, Communications, PINEL restraints, Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention and Security License.
- This position is responsible to the Security Coordinator.
- Pay is hourly and follows non‑union terms and conditions.
- May be required to work days, evenings, nights and weekends, with 12‑hour shifts.
