Sioux Lookout, ON

Pelican Falls First Nations High School (PFFNHS) in Sioux Lookout requires a full-time Student Well-Being Worker to support students attending PFFNHS. The Student Well-Being Workers interact closely with students to identify mental and/or emotional concerns that students face and work alongside them through those challenges. This position will be scheduled to work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday during the school year.

The salary is prorated through the year (26 pay-periods) and the days of work will follow the school calendar.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support students that are dealing with mental health concerns, trauma, substance misuse, etc.
  • Implement a plan of care and/or safety plan as required
  • Develop or assist in developing treatment plans for students
  • Work closely with PFFNHS, SSSP and On-Call staff to support student needs and help identify students who are “at risk” or “in crisis”
  • Provide daily or weekly check-ins with students as required
  • Participate in team meetings as required
  • Liaise with other organizations, partners and/or professionals
  • Make referrals as required (School Nurse, Psychiatrist and other available supports)
  • Engage students in positive activities to help them improve their overall psychological well-being
  • Organize culturally appropriate activities that are related to health and wellness
  • Organize workshops on healthy relationships, communication, conflict resolution, etc.
  • Ensure all reports are kept current and confidentiality is always maintained
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Background in Social Work/Mental Health would be an asset
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture and values
  • Excellent leadership, motivation, and problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in Oji-Cree, Cree or Ojibway is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
  • Able to work effectively and collaboratively with others
  • Strong communication skills
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s License

SALARY: $61,880 to $76,105

  • All staff are compensated 13 weeks of vacation either with vacation days, monetary compensationor a combination of both.
