Overview
Carthage College seeks a dedicated computer science educator to join the faculty as a contract Assistant Professor of Computer Science starting August 2026. The Computer Science department is continuing to grow. We seek a candidate that will be able to teach lower level undergraduate courses as well as fill in the gaps of current curriculum, such as artificial intelligence or cyber security.
The position involves teaching, developing new curriculum, and advising students. Teaching responsibilities include a mix of lower level core computer science courses and upper level elective courses. The expected teaching load is 32 contact hours, which would take the form of 8 lecture courses spread across the Fall, Spring, and January terms. Computer Science at Carthage is a practice-based program with hands-on projects in addition to lectures.
The successful applicant will be involved in strengthening the computer science curriculum at Carthage by updating course materials and developing new courses on topics not currently covered. Ideal candidates will bring at least 1-3 years of industry experience to the role. Applicants with a background in artificial intelligence and cyber security are desired, though applicants from all computer science backgrounds will be considered.
Minimum Qualifications- Meet all requirements for a Masters in a Computer Science discipline by August 2026
- 1-3 years of experience working in a relevant industry/position
- Commitment to innovative curriculum development in computer science education
- Demonstrated record of or potential for successful undergraduate computer science instruction
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting and improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom
