Join to apply for the Assistant Professor, Engineering role at Carthage College
The Department of Engineering seeks an engineering educator to join the Department of Engineering as a three‑year renewable contract instructional faculty member, at the Assistant Professor rank, to start in August 2026. Engineering at Carthage is a non‑disciplinary, practice‑based program. Students learn engineering through real projects with real stakeholders, addressing real needs for local industry and community partners. This academic program combines a liberal arts ethos, designed to emphasize student self‑discovery and exploration, with hands‑on, experiential learning.
Students learn to become engineers by practicing engineering under the guidance of faculty mentors, providing opportunities to grow in all facets of life. The first cohort of engineering students was admitted in Fall 2023. The successful applicant will be involved in shaping this new engineering program at Carthage, ensuring it is informed by disciplinary best practices, meshes with the mission of the College, and builds on the existing curricular strengths of the College.
Responsibilities include teaching 32 contact hours per academic year. Applicants with a background in electronics, controls, Internet of Things (IoT), biochemical processes, or systems analysis are of particular interest, though applicants from all engineering backgrounds will be considered.
Interested candidates should submit a single PDF file including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, 1‑3 page statement of teaching philosophy, and the names and contact information of three professional references. Applications should be received by February 1, 2026.
