The City of Kenosha is seeking a dynamic and innovative person to fill the position of Stormwater Engineer in our City Engineering Department. Under the direction of the Assistant City Engineer, this person will oversee the planning, design, and construction of both small and large scale stormwater projects.

This is an unprecedented time in the history of the City of Kenosha with very large capital investments by the City in its infrastructure and community. This includes the redevelopment of a former automobile manufacturing facility on 107-acres located in the heart of Kenosha, and over $450 million of planned investments in the downtown area and infrastructure. The City of Kenosha’s stormwater treatments and collections will need replacements/upgrades due to areas prone to flooding and the age of the current infrastructure.

The stormwater engineer will apply knowledge and engineering principles to solve both simple and complex stormwater, drainage, and erosion control issues while working closely with our engineering staff, interns, elected officials, residents, and regulatory agencies. Additionally, this position may lead and mentor our other stormwater engineers, EIT's, and interns to further expertise in the stormwater discipline.

  • Schedules, supervises, and designs complex stormwater engineering design projects.
  • Writes bid specifications; participates in the development and design of major and complex projects, evaluates project costs, and develops and recommends special assessments for special projects.
  • Supervises and participates in the analysis and review of stormwater engineering studies and designs prepared by professional consultants; supervises and participates in the selection process for the services of technical consultants.
  • Prepares reports and recommendations for the consideration and request for action of professional and administrative superiors and committees.
  • Conducts special engineering studies and projects relating to technical and administrative aspects of the public works function.
  • Inspects and/or supervises the inspection of construction projects while in progress and upon completion for adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Interprets plans and specifications; approves design changes during construction; reviews contractors' change orders and payment requests and makes recommendations to assistant engineers.
  • Provides a review of development plans to City Development in regards to stormwater management, grading plans, and erosion control.
  • Inspects and assists with drainage complaint resolutions.
  • Assists with administrative responsibilities of the Stormwater Utility.
  • Assists property owners, contractors, and engineers with questions regarding drainage and stormwater management, including on-site investigations.
  • Reviews engineering plans and permit submittals for compliance with City, State, and Federal regulations regarding erosion control, stormwater management, floodplain management, and wetland protection.
  • Volunteer opportunities to assist in snow and ice control
