Position Summary
Setup and operate CNC metalworking and cutting equipment to perform one or more machining functions to produce a quality product per print.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Setup, operate and tend to CNC metalworking and cutting equipment, bar feed machines or robots to perform one or more machining functions on metal work pieces to produce quality parts to print, making program adjustments as required.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Review program or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished workpiece dimensions, and numerical control sequences.
- Transfer commands from servers to CNC modules, using network links.
- Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of the cuts.
- Monitor machine operations and control panel displays, compare readings to specifications to detect problems.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as dull cutting tools or excessive vibration, and adjust machines accordingly.
- Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when necessary.
- Set controls to regulate machining and enter commands or load control media into machine controllers to retrieve programmed instructions.
- Perform preventative maintenance of CNC equipment.
- Setup future jobs while machines are operating.
- Inspect parts and measure dimensions of in‑process and finished work pieces to ensure conformance to print specifications, using precision measuring instruments, optical comparators, CMM or vision machines, along with templates and fixtures.
- Communicate with manufacturing, engineering, and production personnel from all departments to exchange pertinent information and problem solve issues.
- Assist with corrective and preventative actions as required.
- Maintain established standards for scrap and indirect labor.
- Maintain production efficiency and effectiveness standards for running production and setting up machines.
- Document all production data in ERP system, and required paperwork including setup sheets, first‑piece inspection, job travelers, etc.
- Complete all documentation per ISO 13485 and FDA requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 3–5 years of experience in CNC set‑up and advanced operation.
- Experience in ISO/FDA environment preferred.
- Knowledge of CNC equipment and tooling.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Proficiency in machine shop precision measuring equipment including micrometer, caliper, optical comparator and vision machines.
- Understanding of G&M coding.
- Understanding of GD&T.
- Proficiency in machine shop math.
- Knowledge of basic machine programming.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Strong communication skills.
- Moderate noise level.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, coolants, oils.
- Temperature controlled.
- Ability to stand or walk regularly, use hands, reach, talk.
- Operate lifts/handle objects up to 50 lb.
- Stand for up to 12 hours per day.
- Repetitive movements, bending, twisting.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
