Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a Contract position based in Kent, Ohio. This role focuses primarily on accounts receivable, credit, and collections while also contributing to broader general accounting activities and financial reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

- Manage customer invoicing activities, including submitting invoices through customer portals and providing supporting billing documentation when required.

- Evaluate credit information for new and inactive customers, determine appropriate payment terms within company guidelines, and monitor account risk.

- Conduct collection efforts on overdue balances, maintain follow-up records, and prepare updates for recurring credit review meetings.

- Record cash receipts, post sales transactions, and issue credit memos or supplemental invoices related to customer accounts and supply sales.

- Prepare accounts receivable reporting such as monthly securitization schedules, Days Sales Outstanding tracking, and pro forma invoices for advance-payment accounts.

- Review sales orders for accuracy, maintain commission-related data, and support customer rebate accruals and reconciliations based on contract terms.

- Produce recurring sales, bookings, and variance reports for business leaders, using data analysis to highlight trends and performance differences.

- Prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities with timely financial reports.

- Assist with audit activities, freight billing reviews, expense report oversight, purchasing card administration, and process improvement initiatives to strengthen accuracy and efficiency. Requirements - 2+ years of experience in accounting, with hands-on exposure to accounts receivable, collections, and general ledger activities.

- Working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, and standard month-end close procedures.

- Experience handling commercial collections, credit memo processing, and customer account follow-up.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reporting, analysis, and financial data review.

- Familiarity with corporate tax, sales tax, or related tax support activities is preferred.

- Ability to interpret financial data accurately and communicate findings clearly to internal stakeholders.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
