Role Overview

We are looking for a shop technician to perform shop services for fire extinguishers, pre-engineered and engineered system cylinders, and other compressed gas cylinders. This role ensures compliance with life‑safety and fire‑safety requirements, federal, state, and local ordinances, customer requirements, and company expectations. The position is fast‑paced and has high visibility within the company.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Maintain inventory in the shop and assist with counts as needed
  • Perform inventory counts as required
  • Keep shop organized and clean
  • Ensure DOT compliance for hydro systems and other key areas of the business
  • Manage testing records and verify accuracy for DOT inspections
  • Maintain, clean, and organize all shop tools
  • Check specialty tools in and out
  • Building maintenance and cleaning as needed
  • Maintain extinguishers and system cylinders in various locations in shop such as complete work, return bins, swap outs, condemned extinguishers, swapped system cylinders
  • Record and document all inspections, repairs, discrepancies, and recommendations electronically or manually
  • Maintain a positive relationship with customers and pass information to appropriate personnel for follow‑up, quotes, questions, or concerns
  • Maintain equipment and tools necessary to safely perform the job
  • Work in compliance with the Company’s safety program
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Entry level position
  • Ability to calculate basic math, including fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Knowledge and ability to operate basic computer functions, operating systems and software such as Windows, Word, Apple iOS, Android, and Outlook; learn and use industry specific devices and software
  • Valid U.S. driver's license
Ideal Qualities
  • Up to 2 years of experience as a shop technician in the fire life safety industry
  • NAFED 10 within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to operate a forklift

Working Conditions &

Physical Requirements
  • Overtime may be required; hours may vary by location
  • Work environment ranges from hot to cold, with dust exposure
  • Occasional overnight travel to customer locations
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, frequent lifting of toolboxes, equipment, parts, tools, cabling, wiring
  • Frequent ladder climbing, pulling wire, walking, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, raising hands overhead
  • Driving required; time spent driving may vary
  • Required to wear PPE per safety standards
