KCHD-#1 Communications VISTA (Ameri Corps)
For over 120 years, the Kent City Health Department (KCHD) has served the people of Kent through education, programming, and essential services to protect and promote the health of every resident. As a VISTA member, you’ll be part of a legacy of service and innovation, helping to build capacity for impactful health communication. As a Communications VISTA, you will maintain KCHD’s social media, develop educational materials, and distribute timely messages across multiple platforms.
You’ll also create templates, guides, and resources to help the department respond quickly to urgent communication needs. This role is ideal for someone who is curious, reliable, and values producing quality work.
- Strong writing and visual communication skills- (It’s ok if you aren’t the best speller, what does matter is your ability to thoughtfully and effectively communicate ideas to different populations and groups).
- Willing to take the time to thoroughly learn their role, ask questions and communicate with site staff in a timely manner
- Experienced or interested in public health, communications, anthropology and related fields
- Comfortable with digital tools or have a willingness to learn (Canva, social media platforms)
- Able to work independently as much as they can in a team.
- Designing audience‑specific, relevant health education materials (flyers, infographics, social media content and more).
- Planning for and developing communication strategies for public health campaigns and urgent responses (food recalls, outbreaks etc.).
- Assisting with outreach efforts as needed
- Building sustainable systems for communication such as template development, process creation, and internal policy writing.
- Other capacity building activities as needed.
