SEN Teacher - SEMH Specialist School

Are you an enthusiastic and committed teacher looking to take the next step in your career within SEN education?

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist school in Ashford, who are looking for a passionate SEN Teacher to join their team. The school provides specialist education for children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping pupils to re-engage with education and develop the skills they need to thrive.

The successful teacher will play an important role in creating a positive and consistent learning environment. You will be expected to deliver engaging lessons while recognising that pupils may require a more individualised approach to both learning and behaviour. Strong relationship-building skills are essential, as trust and consistency are key to helping pupils make progress.

The Role - SEN Teacher

As part of the teaching team, you will:

Plan and deliver creative, engaging lessons suited to individual abilities and needs.
Provide a structured and supportive classroom environment.
Develop positive relationships with pupils and encourage their confidence and independence.
Use effective behaviour management strategies to support pupils with SEMH needs.
Track progress and adapt lessons to ensure pupils are continuing to develop.
Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and other members of the school team.
Support pupils not only academically, but also with their wider personal and emotional development.

About You

You must hold QTS and be passionate about providing high-quality education to pupils who may have struggled within a mainstream setting.

The school is particularly interested in a SEN teacher who is:

Confident managing behaviour and able to remain calm under pressure.
Patient, empathetic and consistent in their approach.
Experienced working with SEMH, challenging behaviour or other additional needs.
Able to establish positive relationships with pupils from a wide range of backgrounds.
Flexible and willing to adapt their teaching to suit individual pupils.

Previous experience within an SEN or SEMH environment would be an advantage, but applications are also welcomed from mainstream teachers with a genuine interest in moving into specialist education.

If you are a QTS-qualified SEN teacher based in or around Ashford and are interested in finding out more, apply today!
