Environmental Health Officer (Private Sector Housing)

Kent Local Authority

£55-£60 per hour

Initial 6-Month Contract

Hybrid Working (3 days on site)

Are you an experienced Environmental Health Officer looking for your next interim contract within Local Government?

A Kent-based Local Authority is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join its busy and supportive Environmental Health team on an initial 6-month contract.

The Role:

As an Environmental Health Officer, you'll manage a varied caseload across the Private Rented Sector, focusing on housing standards, enforcement, and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities will include:

* Carrying out HHSRS inspections and property investigations

* Assessing Category 1 and Category 2 hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System

* Serving statutory notices and undertaking enforcement action under the Housing Act 2004

* Preparing and issuing Civil Penalty Notices (CPNs)

* Investigating housing complaints, disrepair cases, and poor housing conditions

* Liaising with landlords, tenants, legal teams, and external agencies

* Preparing detailed inspection reports and evidence packs

* Supporting wider Environmental Health and Housing Enforcement functions

About You

To be considered for this Environmental Health Officer role, you will have:

* Recent experience working within a Local Authority Environmental Health or Private Sector Housing team

* Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS, and housing enforcement legislation

* Experience preparing and issuing Civil Penalty Notices

* Ability to independently manage a busy and varied caseload

* Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills

* Environmental Health qualification and EHRB registration (or equivalent) preferred

* Availability to start at short notice would be advantageous
