As a Prison Officer at HMP Swaleside, you will be working in a fast-paced, challenging, and highly rewarding environment. - Maintain safety, security, and order within the prison environment
- Supervise prisoners during daily routines, activities, and movement
- Build professional relationships that encourage positive behaviour and rehabilitation
- Respond to incidents, emergencies, and conflict situations using calm decision-making
- Conduct regular checks, searches, and security procedures in line with policy
- Support rehabilitation activities such as education, training, and behavioural programmes
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across multi-disciplinary prison teams
- Complete accurate reports, records, and incident documentation
- Ensure compliance with prison rules, policies, and safeguarding standards
- Support prisoners with structure, guidance, and encouragement toward positive change
- Minimum age of 18 at commencement of employment
- Ability to meet UK Civil Service nationality and right-to-work requirements
- Willingness to work shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays
- Ability to pass medical, fitness, eyesight, and hearing assessments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to make effective decisions under pressure
- Demonstrated resilience, emotional control, and professionalism
- Commitment to fairness, dignity, and respect
- Experience in public-facing roles such as security, education, military, healthcare, or customer service
- Experience working in high-pressure or safety-critical environments
- Understanding of behaviour management or conflict resolution
- Strong teamwork experience in structured environments

- Contract Type:
Permanent - Salary: £37,246 – £41,503 per annum (based on 37–41 hour week including allowances)
- Working Pattern:
Shift-based (24/7 prison operations, including nights and weekends) - Competitive salary with additional allowances for unsocial hours
