Please note that as part of this role, you will be expected to travel within the UK and abroad to conferences to present work and to attend project meetings.

The School of Computing are looking to appoint a highly motivated Research Associate to participate in research activities related to the projects “Novel Strategies to Fight Child Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking Crimes” (HEROES) and “Child-protection based strategies to fight against sexual abuse and exploitation crimes” (ALUNA). They are funded by the European Commission, and involve 24 partners across 17 countries and 18 partners across 11 countries, respectively, including EU and non-EU countries.

As Research Associate you will:

  • Meet the objectives of the relevant project work packages according to the direction of the Principal Investigator(s).
  • Support the research of other team members under the direction of the Principal Investigator(s).
  • Engage with and contribute to research progress meetings with the project team at Kent and with other investigators and researchers from the HEROES and ALUNA projects’ partners.
  • Remain up-to-date with the relevant literature and share appropriate articles and insights with the project team.

To be successful in this role you will have/be:

  • BSc (or equivalent) in a topic related to Computer Science
  • MSc and/or PhD, or equivalent experience in Computing or in a related discipline
  • Experience in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java or C/C++)
  • Experience with Machine Learning (Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models)
