This position involves developing mechanical solutions for component packaging and launch vehicle integration of flight avionics hardware. You will collaborate with avionics development, structures, and production teams to design, implement, and iterate on your solutions, aiming for continuous improvement. The role requires staying focused, moving quickly, self-directing, and learning on the fly.
Responsibilities- Design, manufacture, and test packaging for flight avionics electronics and electro-mechanical actuators.
- Design, manufacture, and integrate secondary structures used to house avionics components and harnesses on the flight vehicle.
- Perform thermal, structural, and tolerance analysis using hand calculations and finite element analysis.
- Develop mechanical designs, create 3D models, production drawings, and maintain design data.
- Conduct failure analysis related to thermal, loads, vibration, and shock.
- Coordinate with machine shops and production teams to ensure manufacturability and hardware readiness for qualification and flight.
- Manage hardware delivery timelines from inception through testing and integration.
- Lead design reviews internally and externally.
- Drive continuous improvement to increase throughput and reduce costs to meet launch targets.
- B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- At least 1 year of experience in mechanical or electromechanical design and analysis (including internships and significant student projects).
- Strong organizational, communication, and self-motivation skills.
- Experience with CAD and FEA software like NX and Ansys.
- Design experience for electronics packaging in extreme environments.
- Knowledge of harness routing, manufacturing processes, and high-vibration design considerations.
- Ability to perform thermal analysis and conduct fatigue and thermal testing.
- Understanding of GD&T, PCB layout, and collaboration with PCB designers.

Target levels based on experience:
- Level 1: $91,000 - $114,900
- Level 2: $104,500 - $141,400
- Level 3: $123,000 - $184,400
Note:
Salary levels are approximate and depend on experience and skill fit.
