Organic coating services include epoxies, phenolics, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomerics, intumescents, lacquers, alkyds, acrylics, dry‑film lubricants, powder coatings and Teflon. Protective Coatings Inc. has been a certified member of the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) and works with major aerospace customers such as Boeing, Grumman, Gulfstream, Lockheed Martin, Bombardier, Cessna and Sikorsky.
Candidates for NDT Inspector Level 3 will possess the skills and knowledge to perform all duties of a trainee, Level 1‑Limited and Level 2, and can also independently inspect parts, make evaluations, perform required process tests and document results. The Level 3 Inspector will be knowledgeable in all NDT methods used by Protective Coatings and have familiarity with other NDT methods as represented in Level 3 ASNT testing.
Responsibilities include inspecting chemically treated metallic and nonmetallic parts, performing fluorescent or black‑lighting inspections for defects such as fissures, weld breaks or fractures using MAG and FPI processes, and maintaining NDT training, qualification, certification and performance levels of active NDT personnel. Candidates must be self‑disciplined, self‑motivated, detail oriented, and possess strong leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise 10‑30 employees in the NDT/MAG/penetrant areas and carry out responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
- Conduct or direct the training, examination and certification of personnel in the method certified.
- Establish and approve NDT procedures and related work instructions for technical adequacy and compliance to requirements.
- Maintain and review NDT personnel qualification and certification files and monitor performance levels.
- Examine parts under fluorescent or black lighting to detect surface defects using FPI or MAG.
- Provide detailed information on processing techniques, findings, evaluation of indications and part condition/disposition recommendations.
- Participate in and respond to NDT system auditing (internal and external).
- Review NDT process rejection reports.
- Set up and calibrate equipment, conduct tests, and interpret, evaluate, and document inspection results.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with safety directives and policy.
- Remain aware of potential exposure to chemicals, solvents, fumes, wet/humid conditions, low‑level lighting, moderate noise, and heavy‑lifting or mechanical hoist requirements.
- Work closely with inspectors and management to complete work and prioritize tasks.
- Maintain and clean the work area as prescribed by supervision.
- Independently perform and train personnel in all duties of an NDT Helper, Level 1‑Limited Operator, and Level 2 Inspector.
- Strong vision, including color and peripheral vision; ability to pass a Jaeger eye exam.
- Familiarity with codes, standards and specifications such as NAS 410, BSS 7698 and BAERD GEN‑012.
- Blueprint reading and interpretation skills for aerospace production detail parts and sub‑assemblies.
- Basic mathematic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
- Problem‑solving skills: define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions.
- Basic computer skills in MS Word and MS Excel.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Familiarity with CAPA (Corrective Action / Preventative Action).
- Strong communication skills; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
