The City of Kent is currently seeking a GIS Analyst 2 in our Public Works Department. The ideal candidate will be a tech-savvy individual who has experience performing advanced work in the use of geographic information system (GIS) software and workstations. This position includes responsibility for performing a variety of technical work on a wide range of GIS analysis and services to multiple work groups throughout the city.

Minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, planning, engineering, or a related field, along with at least two (2) years of increasingly responsible work experience in GIS. GENERAL

PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the GIS Supervisor, or designee, perform advanced technical work in the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) software and workstations.

The work involves GIS database design, end-user support, application development, user interface development, and integration between GIS and other application software. The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of technical duties related to GIS applications, infrastructure mapping, query, data transfer, map creation and input of data into the GIS. The distinguishing characteristics of this classification include its mid-level of experience, responsibility, and involvement in all phases of the GIS software for the Public Works Department.

Work is performed under the supervision of the GIS Supervisor who sets the overall objectives and resources available. The employee and supervisor work together to develop the deadlines, projects, and work to be completed. The employee is responsible for the work, plans and carries out the assignment, resolves most conflicts that arise, coordinates work with others, and interprets policies on their own initiative in terms of established objectives.

The employee keeps the supervisor informed of progress, potentially controversial matters or far-reaching implications. Work is reviewed only in terms of feasibility, compatibility with other work, or effectiveness of results.

This classification is part of a series and incumbents may also perform duties at the entry level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform maintenance of geometry, attribute, and metadata of City GIS datasets, including data used by the Asset Management System. Make edits consistent with City and industry standards for versioned SDE environment.

Verify attribute data through consistent quality-control checks performing frequencies, statistics, and summaries.
