Data Center Technician I – Bayonet Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning
Job Summary
Support the physical and virtual infrastructure of the organization. Drive data‑center best practice and industry standards into work processes and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Layer 1 network cabling and device installation, including labeling and power connectivity.
- Hardware support work orders: installation, certification, troubleshooting, and cabling break‑fix.
- Asset management, auditing, and daily work‑log/ticket tracking.
- Maintain and document SLAs, scheduled installation dates, and network cabling timeliness.
- Ensure a safe, secure operating environment; report violations to supervisor.
- Document and maintain detailed records of all activities.
- Enforce site security protocols, badging requirements, and data‑protection procedures.
- Apply strong knowledge of server and network hardware, copper and fiber infrastructure, testing, and support tools.
- Coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping, and RMA processing.
- Provide vendor and security escorts as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of raised floor, cabinet/rack exteriors, and work benches.
- Support standard and emergency operating procedures.
- Report status of data‑center service availability, performance, and capacity utilization.
- Daily error log reporting and physical data‑center inspections for health, power, cooling, and hazards.
- Coordinate equipment installation and delivery schedules per project plans.
Qualifications
- Self‑motivated, positive professional with strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Effective oral and written communication; able to read small print and recognize audible signals.
- Capable of working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 lbs (body) and move up to 75 lbs (equipment).
- Able to see and distinguish colors and read small print.
- Travel within branch and/or regional territory as required.
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field; supervisory experience desirable.>
- No license required.
- Minimum education:
High School.
