Position SummaryThe Junior Fire Camp Counsellor will demonstrate the Town’s CARE core values (Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Engaged) through daily interactions with individuals at all levels of the organization, external contacts and elected officials. By building positive rapport and relationships, the candidate will help us deliver services that make a difference in the community.
Responsibilities- Provide a high level of front‑line customer service including greeting and engaging participants and informing parents/guardians, and responding to inquiries as required.
- Work cooperatively and maintain ongoing and effective communication with participants, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Supervise and work with groups of children, promoting a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for all campers and staff.
- Participate in preparing and implementing daily and weekly program plans that are enjoyable and diverse, including special events and theme days; actively lead activities during program hours while adhering to program plans, standards and scheduled times.
- Arrive at the program site on time to properly prepare for the day's program and start the program according to schedule.
- Act as a positive role model for program participants and other team members.
- Ensure equipment is set‑up and stored appropriately by performing daily opening and closing tasks at Camp/Playground location to maintain a safe and organized program space.
- Perform regular site checks and ensure that the necessary equipment and supplies are available in a safe condition.
- Become familiar with Town of Whitby policies, procedures and emergency procedures and be able to implement such procedures.
- Ensure the safety of all campers by providing emergency or first‑aid assistance when required.
- Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow‑up and to take appropriate action.
- Other duties as assigned.
You are a self‑motivated, solutions‑oriented team member who conveys thoughts clearly and concisely, listens attentively, and asks questions for clarification. You demonstrate solid organizational skills, strong judgment, research, reasoning, numerical and analytical skills. You are eager to learn new things, foster a collaborative team environment, and can work well independently and as part of a team.
What You Bring To Our Team- A passion for working with children and helping them grow in a positive environment.
- Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
- Enrollment in a Pre‑Service Firefighter Program would be considered an asset.
- Must possess and keep current Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C’ certificate (or be willing to obtain prior to starting employment).
- A valid Police Criminal Record Check to work with the Vulnerable Sector.
- Demonstrated leadership experience (completion of a C.I.T Certificate or L.I.T Certificate will be considered an asset).
- Students must be currently enrolled in and attending a secondary or post‑secondary school on a full‑time basis for the 2025/2026 school year and be returning to a post‑secondary institution on a full‑time basis in September 2026.
$18.92 per hour
Work ShiftFlexible hours, Monday to Friday (up to a maximum of 44 hours per week).
