Position Information

Work Schedule: Students will be required to work 20 to 25 hours a week, including openings, closings and weekend shifts. During finals week students may be required to work a midnight shift. During the summer, students may work up to 35 hours a week based on coverage and need.
Job DescriptionProvide general assistance to patrons at the Public Services Desks and maintain the library collection.
Primary Responsibilities- Provide general assistance to patrons at the Public Services Desks.
- Check materials in and out.
- Answer basic directional and reference questions (electronic and print resources).
- Make referrals and assist patrons with basic library needs.
- Shelve, shelf‑read and dust/straighten shelving/books.
- Provide clerical support and conduct inventories.
- Search for materials; shift the collection; perform pick‑ups of all four floors.
- Perform other related stacks maintenance duties as assigned.
- General: Excellent customer service skills, ability to work independently, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Skill: Proficient written and verbal communication skills; computer literate; tactful and efficient interaction with students, staff, faculty, and library users; self‑motivated and dependable; capable of working with minimal supervision; able to put items in alphabetical and numerical order, especially decimals.
- Physical: Manual dexterity; light lifting; some exposure to dust.
- Academic: Maintains a B GPA or above.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of libraries, collection maintenance in an academic/learning environment, academic research and the Library of Congress classification system are desirable.
