Student Specialist – Cross-Trained (Care Closet @ NKU + UCAP Support Role)

This cross‑trained Student Specialist position supports two impactful student success programs at NKU: the Care Closet @ NKU and the University Connect and Persist (UCAP) office. Students in this role help provide essential resources, from professional clothing to textbook access, while gaining valuable skills in customer service, outreach, organization, and peer support. This position also offers the opportunity to join the Engage

KY Ameri Corps Peer Leader program

, where eligible students can earn an additional education stipend and professional development benefits.

Work Schedule:

Students will be permitted to work 10-15 hours per week, primarily Monday‑Friday between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm. Hours may also be available during summer. The role will begin as soon as possible and continue throughout the 25‑26 Academic Year.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Care Closet @ NKU
    • Greet and assist students visiting the Care Closet in a welcoming and affirming manner.
    • Sort, organize, and restock donated clothing and supplies.
    • Track inventory and communicate low stock or student requests to the coordinator.
    • Participate in tabling, outreach, and educational programming across campus.
    • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the Care Closet environment.
  • UCAP Student Employee Role
    • Greet and check in students and guests visiting the UCAP office.
    • Answer phones and provide administrative support to staff as needed.
    • Promote UCAP services at tabling events for current and prospective students.
    • Log and maintain records for the UCAP Textbook Lending Library.
    • Provide general office support and assist with student retention efforts.
Qualifications
  • Must be Federal Work Study eligible (check with NKU Student Financial Assistance if unsure).
  • Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester.
  • Must have availability between Monday–Friday, 8:15 am–4:30 pm
    .
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • Dependable, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Intrinsically motivated and self‑driven.
