The department is open Monday-Friday, 8:15 am-4:30 pm (hours can vary each day by the student’s class schedule). There may be some evening or weekend hours on occasion for events.
This position is for 10-15 hours a week during the spring semester. (Schedule determined upon hiring). Working during students’ class times is prohibited.
Job Description
First-Year Experience is hiring a highly motivated Northern Kentucky University student. The First-Year Experience Program Assistant will support the department’s academic programming by assisting with academic events, marketing, development, and engagement initiatives. This position will collaborate with the Director of First-Year Experience and Programming, the FYE Program Assistant, and the Department Assistant to develop and implement programming for the Common Experience program and initiatives.
This position will also assist in assessing program reception through data review for the First-Year Experience of fice. This position will be in person with some virtual possible. The position will collaborate with the Communication and Engagement Assistant and the Events and Marketing Assistant.
Primary Responsibilities
As a First-Year Experience Program Assistant, you will:
- Assist with designing, planning, evaluating, and revising FYE program activities, programming, and logistics;
- Assist with day-of coordination of academic events and trainings;
- Collect, enter, analyze, and make recommendations based on evaluation data.
- Assist with organizing logistics for the Common Experience Program events.
- Participates in maintaining storage areas and tracking inventory.
- Engagement Responsibilities:
- Serve as positive role models of student success;
- Assist with department initiatives to engage the campus community;
- It is critical to think about this programming from a campus-wide perspective with a key focus on student engagement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study ( FWS ).
This position considers a candidate with a demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for NKU , involvement in campus activities, and a desire to help new students, which strongly benefits candidacy. The ideal candidate should major in Communication Studies, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Art, Business, or a related major.
- Students must be able to demonstrate a level of the following:

- Data analytics skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to think critically
- Beginner to Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Suites and Adobe CC Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign a plus), Canva, etc.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
