Instructional Assistant; opens window​/tab

Eastern Greene Elementary School is seeking a compassionate and dependable Instructional Assistant to support teaching and learning in K–4 classrooms. This part‑time role works closely with the classroom teacher to help meet the academic, behavioral, and developmental needs of students. The ideal candidate enjoys working with young children, communicates well with staff and families, and maintains a calm, structured presence throughout the school day.

• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Preferred: 1–2 years of experience working with young children in school or care settings
• Ability to follow teacher direction and work as part of a team
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Patience, compassion, and ability to maintain a safe and supportive environment
• Ability to lift, move, and actively assist students when needed

• Support the teacher in delivering instruction and supervising students
• Contribute to a safe, organized, and nurturing classroom environment
• Promote student independence and engagement through individual and small-group support
• Assist in managing daily classroom routines and behavior

• Assist with academic activities under the direction of the classroom teacher
• Help manage classroom behavior to ensure a safe and productive learning environment
• Provide supervision during lunch, recess, transitions, and other non‑classroom times
• Take over classroom duties temporarily when the teacher is unavailable (e.g., meetings or emergencies)
• Prepare, distribute, and clean up classroom materials
• Assist individual students with hygiene needs as required
• Respond to student illness or injury until the nurse is available
• Establish respectful, compassionate relationships with students and staff
• Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal

• Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and squatting
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull items or students as needed
• Requires walking or standing most of the day, with brief periods of sitting
