K-6 Special Education One-on-One Assistant
Richard McKenna Charter School is looking for a one-on-one aide to assist students with behavioral issues by implementing behavior plans, work one-on-one or in small groups, and provide support for daily activities under the supervision of a teacher or other specialists. Collect data on student progress, help with social and life skills, and de-escalate situations when needed. Work collaboratively with a support team and maintain professionalism.

Key responsibilities
- Implement behavior plans: Assist in implementing and following through with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral support strategies.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support: Work with individual students or lead small groups in activities to build confidence and skills.
- Support daily activities: Help students with their daily schedule, academic tasks, and extracurricular activities, including recess and lunch.
- Monitor and collect data: Observe, document, and collect data on student behaviors to track progress and inform the support team.
- Assist with social and life skills: Help students develop communication, social, and daily living skills.
- De-escalate situations: Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors or situations as they arise.
- Collaborate with the team: Work with teachers, parents, and other specialists to gain a better understanding of student needs and to provide consistent support.
Required skills and qualifications
- Education: A high school diploma is required. Related college coursework is preferred.
- Experience: Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is preferred.
- Personal characteristics: Dependability, flexibility, empathy, patience, and strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
