Job Description & How to Apply Below
Gain Psychology, Special Education, & Social Work Experience at Camp Ramapo this summer!

Based on our 240-acre campus in Rhinebeck, New York, Camp Ramapo is Ramapo for Children’s residential summer camp that serves young people who benefit from a more supportive camp environment. Some of our campers are on the Autism Spectrum, while others require additional support due to trauma, mental health challenges, or other disabilities. Each summer, we hire students and new professionals from around the world to work as counselors, mentors, instructors and caregivers for our residential campers.

A summer at Ramapo acts as an internship experience for many of our staff. We are happy to work with students to fulfill the internship requirements of your specific program, including hours and supervision. Additionally, we offer an on-site, nationally-accredited college course (Fieldwork in Special Education) of up to 6 credits as well as ongoing training and coaching. Many of our staff go on to pursue careers in the fields of Education, Psychology, Social Work, and Human Services with the foundations of learning they gained at Ramapo.

As a Camp Ramapo counselor, you’ll benefit from:

  • Intensive, evidence-informed training and coaching in creating inclusive environments, adapting to individual needs, de-escalating behavior, and facilitating restorative practices
  • Hands-on experience working with young people with a wide range of needs and abilities
  • Access to a professional network, including year-round staff members, board members, and staff alumni with careers in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, and related fields
  • Communal Housing and meals on our 240-acre campus in the beautiful Hudson Valley, plus a stipend and travel bonus
  • Internship and college course credit based on the criteria of your college program

Qualifications:

Many counselors are students and emerging professionals in the fields of Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, and related fields, but no previous experience in this type of work is necessary. We do ask you to exemplify the following: patience, commitment, a readiness to learn, and a willingness to be of service to others, regardless of level of need. Our most successful staff are those looking for a challenging and immersive residential experience that provides an unmatched opportunity to gain the skills necessary to support young people with a wide range of needs, abilities, behavior, and backgrounds.
