Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Student Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, or a related field, and one to two years of college-level academic advising or student services experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications Position DescriptionThe Visiting Student Specialist supports visiting and non-degree-seeking students with enrollment, prerequisite verification, registration, and navigation of Central Piedmont processes. The position serves as a primary point of contact, reviews transcripts to verify course prerequisites, provides guidance regarding course selection and registration, and connects students with appropriate resources. The Advisor is also responsible for keeping up to date notes and information about students using a case management approach that leverages the use of college CRM and other tools.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- 1. Serve as the primary point of contact for visiting and non-degree-seeking students, providing timely, accurate, and personalized support.
- 2. Explain visiting student requirements, policies, enrollment processes, and deadlines.
- 3. Review official and unofficial transcripts to verify completion of course prerequisites, ensuring a final grade of C or higher.
- 4. Assist visiting students with course selection and registration while considering prerequisites, co-requisites, course availability, and academic requirements.
- 5. Guide students completing degrees at other institutions to consult with their home institution regarding how Central Piedmont coursework will apply toward their degree.
- 6. Utilize the College Catalog and approved institutional resources to assist students with identifying courses and understanding course requirements.
- 7. Collaborate with Admissions, Registration, academic departments, faculty, and other campus partners to resolve enrollment and registration issues.
- 8. Assist students with navigating Central Piedmont systems, registration tools, and other technology applications.
- 9. Communicate with visiting students regarding required documentation, transcript submission, registration deadlines, and other enrollment requirements.
- 10. Utilizes technology that supports best practices in case management advising strategy (such as MyConnect, Colleague, Student Planning).
- 11. Maintain accurate student records, transcript reviews, prerequisite verification, and case notes in accordance with College policies and privacy requirements.
- 12. Provide appropriate referrals and warm handoffs to other student support services.
- 13. Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, assessment activities, outreach, and other initiatives supporting enrollment and student success.
