Animation Faculty and Department Chair - Full Time, Tenure Track

POSITION: A search is in process to secure a qualified faculty candidate for a vacant position for the Fall of 2027. The appointment is for a full-time, tenure track professor of Animation and Department Chair of the Media, Journalism & Digital Storytelling Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

An MFA in animation or multimedia is preferred. A commitment to academic excellence and spiritual vitality is necessary, with faculty innovation and creativity highly valued. INSTITUTIONAL COMMITMENT:
Candidates must give evidence of an evangelical Christian commitment, and be in harmony with the College's Statement of Faith and Mission, with preference toward those from a Wesleyan Theological perspective.

ACADEMIC RANK:
Dependent on qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities would include teaching theoretical and practical animation classes for undergraduate and graduate classes in-class and possibly online. Other courses could also be included based on qualifications. The department chair position includes overseeing the faculty and curriculum of the Media, Journalism & Digital Storytelling Department. Standard teaching load is 12 hours each semester with optional summer teaching available. The department chair position includes a reduced load and stipend.

The chair reports to the Dean of the School of Communication Arts.

COMPENSATION:
Nine-month base compensation for faculty is competitive and dependent upon education and experience. Benefits include retirement (TIAA/CREF) and insurance plans.

SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION ARTS INFORMATION:
The School of Communication Arts has two departments and roughly 300 students and includes the following undergraduate majors:
Communication, Multimedia Journalism, Media Communication, Multimedia Design, and Theatre. Graduate degrees include M.A.s in Digital Storytelling and Communication. Asbury also offers M.F.A.s in Screenwriting and Film & Television Production. There are currently twelve full-time faculty plus part-time faculty.
