About This OpportunityPenn's Wolf Humanities Center offers five one-year Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships for 2027–2028 on the theme “Empire,” combining independent humanities research, a weekly seminar, teaching and professional development. Applications close on 1 November 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
The Wolf Humanities Center fellowship supports early-career humanities scholars whose work engages the 2027–2028 theme “Empire.” Five fellows will spend a year in residence at Penn pursuing individual research while participating in a weekly interdisciplinary seminar and the Center's symposium. Each fellow teaches one course and receives a faculty mentor, creating a structured environment for both scholarship and academic-career development. The programme is open across humanities and allied fields and is intended for scholars whose doctorate falls within the stated eligibility window.
The appointment runs from July 2027 through June 2028 and includes a salary, research fund and health-benefit support.
