The School of Counseling, Human Development and Family Science ( SCHDFS ) seeks a dynamic faculty member for an Assistant/Associate Professor in the Counseling and Human Resource Development ( CHRD ) program at our main campus in Brookings , South Dakota. This is full-time, benefit-eligible, 9-month, tenure-track position with a start date August 2027, inclusive of summer teaching possibilities. Primary responsibilities include teaching across multiple locations and delivery formats, research, advising/mentorship of graduate students, and service.
This position requires in-person teaching in Brookings.
The Counseling and Human Resource Development ( CHRD ) program at SDSU is a leader in the state as an academic unit that prepares professional counselors in six specializations: administration of student affairs, clinical mental health counseling, clinical rehabilitation counseling, college counseling, marriage and family counseling, and school counseling. The CHRD program is delivered in-person at the main campus in Brookings, at the Rapid City campus, and online.
CHRD students have high Licensed Professor Counselor exam pass rates and 100% placement rate after graduation.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Key Responsibilities- Teach graduate courses in a CACREP
-approved master’s level program including clinical courses such as Practicum and/or Internship. - Design and deliver courses in a variety of instructional formats.

Minimum Qualifications :
- Earned doctorate from a CACREP
-accredited Counselor Education program by August 2027 or an equivalent doctorate plus one year full-time in a CACREP accredited counseling program prior to the school year. - Eligibility for licensure and/or certification in the state of South Dakota.
- Knowledge of the most recent CACREP standards and policy practices.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to teach in a variety of university settings (on-campus, online synchronous, and asynchronous).
- Potential for scholarly activity, publication, and success in obtaining external funding to support research activity.
- Clinical supervision skills at the graduate level.
- Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations; the maintenance of certifications and/or licenses pertinent to the counseling specialty area(s); and, sustained professional development and renewal activities related to counseling, professional service and advocacy in counseling, and research and scholarly activity in counseling.
