Summary

As a Process and Instrumentation Engineer, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining the controls documentation that supports product development and continuous improvement efforts within KCC product lines. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that control system designs are clearly defined, well-documented, and aligned with the needs of multiple departments. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams—including Electrical, Mechanical/Cabinet, R&D, and Testing & Validation—to translate system requirements into accurate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Sequences of Operation (SoO), and Controls Functional Specifications.

Over time, you will continue developing your knowledge in the industry components, uses, and documentation.

In this role, you will also lead the specification and sourcing of HVAC controls end devices such as sensors, actuators, valves, and pressure transmitters. Your work will support initiatives in new product development, cost reduction, reliability improvement, and supplier diversification. You will evaluate and present business cases for alternative components, assist in validating new devices through lab testing, and provide technical guidance to ensure their proper application in production and field environments.

This position offers a great opportunity for engineers that want to grow and sharpen their engineering knowledge, particularly in the HVAC&R industry, learning about the newest technologies being introduced, taking advantage of cutting‑edge controls techniques, and the rapid development of new products.

Essential Functions Or Responsibilities

Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&), Sequences of Operation (SoO), and assist with Controls Functional Specifications. Documents are developed working with R&D, New Product Development, and other departments for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Specify and source new HVAC control end devices (sensors, actuators, valves, pressure transmitters, etc.) for new product development, cost reduction, product improvement, reliability improvements, or providing multiple supply lines.
  • Develop short business cases for switching end devices based on investigations for alternatives.
  • Participate in new product development to specify when, what, and where end devices are installed within the units.
  • Collaborate with the Testing and Validation team to create test plans for new sensors and end devices to confirm that they work for our applications before implementing into production.
  • Provide guidance to other teams on troubleshooting devices or making sense of their use/application in the field.
Qualifications/Skills
