Overview
Entry Level Engineer – Columbia, KY. Phillips Tank & Structure (PTS) is looking for an Entry Level Engineer for its Kentucky operations working out of the Columbia, KY office. Our team specializes in tank repair across petroleum, power, water, and renewable fuels markets. We use Solid Works to produce designs and fabrication details for steel structures and automate design and detailing of semi-custom structures.
We are a growing, team-oriented company with decades of field experience in construction, repair, and maintenance of field-welded, above-ground steel tanks. PTS has active projects throughout the United States and internationally. We require an entry-level Engineer that we may develop within our systems and approach.
- We emphasize safety, teamwork, and a customer-focused approach.
- Perform structural design calculations for steel structures using Mathcad and other tools developed by PTS.
- Create fabrication drawings to promote automation in purchasing and fabrication of design assemblies; these packages are used by field staff to erect or repair tanks and equipment.
- Assist in procurement of material and fabricated assemblies; coordinate with suppliers to communicate requirements.
- Use industry codes (API 650, API 620, AWWA D100, and others), customer specifications, and company standards in design drawing packages.
- Visit project sites to measure existing conditions to support design duties (site visits may involve climbing ladders and carrying measuring instruments).
- Perform other duties as assigned by Lead Designers and PTS Management.
- Refine and develop custom-built Solid Works design tables and other tools.
- Excellent math skills in algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering.
- 2+ years of experience or equivalent training using Solid Works or other 3D drafting software is a plus.
- Skilled in MS Excel, Word, and other productivity software.
- Experience with Mathcad or other engineering calculation programs is a plus.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Salary commensurate with experience. PTS offers benefits including 401K, health coverage, paid vacation, and holidays. There is no relocation offered for this position. PTS is an EEO employer.
