Radio Frequency EngineerQualis, LLC is looking for a full-time RF (Radio Frequency) Engineer to work in the Space Domain (SDA) and Missile Warning (MW) mission areas. This position will be filled in Huntsville, AL. Our team is dedicated to advancing the SDA and MW missions through focused and innovative research and engineering. We are on the cutting edge of Deep Space surveillance radar technology and radar hardware solutions to enhance mission capabilities.
We focus on delivering rapid, high-value solutions to our customers by recruiting, growing, and mentoring top technical talent. We are motivated technical staff who are interested in working independently, collaboratively, and performing high-impact work from day one. Our engineers are willing and expected to dive deep into developing solutions to the most challenging technical problems.
Responsibilities
The RF Engineer will work within a multi-discipline team providing support that addresses our customers’ needs implementing current technology in SDA and MW radars.
The RF Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, optimization, and enhancement of RF systems.
The RF Engineer will be a self-starter who works well both in teams and independently. They will have strong communication skills and robust attention to detail, organizational skills, and self-accountability. Additional responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Analyze RF subsystem requirements and develop design solutions for transmit, receive, and channel-simulation functions in a hardware-in-the-loop environment.
- Perform link-budget, frequency, and interference analyses to characterize gain, loss, noise, linearity, isolation, and dynamic range, and recommend design improvements.
- Design, integrate, and characterize RF modules and frequency-conversion circuits using amplifiers, filters, mixers, switches, attenuators, and related components.
- Develop and assemble RF signal paths using cables, connectors, splitters, and combiners, and evaluate impedance matching, coupling, losses, and channel isolation.
- Develop and review RF and interface-board schematics and PCB layouts, and support fabrication, assembly, board bring-up, and design corrections.
- Evaluate substrate and enclosure materials, shielding, grounding, and thermal effects on RF performance, and recommend practical design changes.
- Evaluate components and test hardware, prepare technical specifications and bills of materials, and support procurement and resolution of supplier technical issues.
- Implement and test RF hardware interfaces with software and firmware engineers, including control, configuration, status monitoring, and data capture.
- Integrate timing references and synchronization interfaces, and verify coordinated transmit, receive, and channel-simulation operation.
- Develop and execute calibration procedures, measure signal-path amplitude and delay, and update calibration data when hardware configurations change.
- Perform board, module, and system tests; investigate complex RF and hardware/software integration problems; and verify corrective actions against requirements.
- Document analyses, designs, interfaces, calibration data, and test results, and contribute technical findings and recommendations to design reviews and engineering plans.
