About This RoleTechnical Writers in Electronic Systems (ES) play a critical role in producing accurate, compliant, and user‑focused technical manuals that support the installation, operation, and maintenance of complex systems. As a Level III Technical Writer, you will independently develop and manage technical publications, collaborate directly with engineering and program teams, and provide guidance to junior writers throughout the documentation lifecycle.
Responsibilities Analyze engineering data and lead information extraction efforts- Independently review engineering drawings, specifications, test data, and system documentation to identify all content required for technical manual development.
- Coordinate with the Logistics Product Data (LPD) team to interpret task analysis outputs and ensure technical procedures are complete, accurate, and aligned with system design intent.
- Provide clarification requests to engineering and serve as a documentation subject‑matter resource within the project team.
- Create advanced technical content including detailed theory of operation, complex troubleshooting procedures, operator tasks, and corrective/preventive maintenance instructions.
- Develop publications in MS Word and XML using tools such as WebX Ultra Author, Arbortext, or the EAGLE Publishing System with minimal oversight.
- Generate and refine illustrations using NX CAD and Corel, ensuring accuracy and consistency with engineering configuration.
- Ensure all content aligns with program standards, specifications, and industry requirements.
- Perform detailed reviews of technical manuals to verify accuracy, clarity, specification compliance, and publication readiness.
- Work with the Lead Writer and Program Management to establish publication schedules and ensure deliverables meet established milestones.
- Participate in—and at times lead—Integrated Product Team (IPT) discussions related to documentation scope, configuration, and technical updates.
- Lead in‑process reviews, validation events, and customer‑facing technical manual reviews.
- Execute validation procedures, analyze discrepancies, and incorporate corrections to ensure publication accuracy.
- Mentor and provide direction to Level I and Level II writers, ensuring consistent quality across documentation products.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred, or 4–6 years equivalent work experience.
- Typically 2–4 years of technical writing experience, preferably in a technical, engineering, or defense environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing installation, operation, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and system documentation.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and take ownership of publication deliverables.
- Skilled at collaborating with cross‑functional teams including Engineering, Program Management, LPD, Training, and Specialty Engineering.
