Gulfshore Playhouse, a mission-driven, professional theatre company located in Naples, Florida, is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented and organized individual to serve as Props Artisan.
Gulfshore Playhouse offers a diverse season of straight plays and musical ranging from venerated classics and Broadway hits to contemporary works and world premieres. Gulfshore Play House is passionately committed to producing high-quality, professional theatre which exceeds the expectations of the cultured residents and visitors of Naples, FL, many of whom are regular theatre patrons in New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
Gulfshore Play House opened the Baker Theatre and Education Center, a state-of-the-art facility, featuring a 350-seat mainstage with a Broadway-sized stage, a 125-seat flexible space, rehearsal studios, classrooms, and rental space in October of 2024. In 2022, Gulfshore Play House became
nationally recognized as the 77th member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT). This is an extraordinarily exciting time for the Gulfshore Play House, which is experiencing unprecedented growth in a collaborative and creative community.

The Props Artisan will work with the Props Supervisor to pull, purchase, construct, and paint props. They will complete daily notes and tasks assigned by the Props Supervisor. Additionally, the Props Artisan will assist in the load-in and strike of each show and work as run crew on assigned shows. The Props Artisan will also assist other departments when needed.
The ideal individual will have a strong drive to provide high-quality work, the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and ability to work as a part of the team. Gulfshore Play House values hard work, kindness, generosity, passion, and grace-under-pressure. Employee will be expected to work extended hours on occasion when necessary to meet goals.
Some weekend and evening hours are required including attendance at performances, special events, and/or meetings that may happen outside normal hours.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist Props Supervisor in achieving all production goals throughout the season by building, creating, painting, pulling, and sewing all props, furniture, and set dressing in a timely manner as assigned.
- Work with Props Supervisor to coordinate all purchases, rentals, and borrows necessary for the realization of the production.
- Maintain excellent communication with stage management, production staff, and artistic team throughout the production process.
- Check daily stage manager rehearsal and performance reports for notes concerning props, furniture or set dressing pieces that need to be procured, repaired or replaced.
- Follow through with completion of daily notes as assigned by Props Supervisor
- Assist Props Supervisor with the supervision and training of seasonal staff and any additional labor brought into the prop shop.
- Serve as show crew for assigned productions
- Adhere to all safety protocols at all times.
- Assist Props Supervisor with maintaining prop stock and storage organization.
- Attend all necessary meetings including, but not limited to, production meetings and company meetings.
- Provide support for special events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Employee will be expected to work extended hours on occasion when necessary to meet goals. Some weekend and evening hours are required including attendance at some performances, special events, and/or meetings that may happen outside normal hours. We acknowledge there are great candidates who may not have all of the qualifications listed below, but possess intuitive knowledge or other fully transferable skills.
Qualifications:
- One to two years experience in the field
- Background in props areas such as crafts, electronics, furniture, digital design, sculpture, sewing, etc.
- Skills in scenic paint, carpentry, and upholstery experience a plus.
- Supplemental experience in lighting sound or costuming a plus.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
- Ability to climb, ladders, mobile lifts, catwalks and work at heights
- Ability to work overhead with heavy equipment
- Ability to work in tight, enclosed spaces including ones in the air
- Ability to work in dark spaces
- Ability to stand for long periods of time depending on assignment
- Ability to work in and with proper personal protective equipment
