We are seeking a Senior Underwriter, to join our Credit Specialties US team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a highly specialized underwriting environment focused on trade credit and political risk insurance solutions for banks and corporations. The position is preferably based in our Hunt Valley, MD office, with consideration given to candidates located near our New York City office.

The Credit Specialties Unit (CSU) provides customer solutions for risks that may not be covered by Atradius' traditional product suite. These solutions include, but are not limited to:
- Single situations
- Contract cover
- Structured Trade Credit and Political Risk Cover for banks and corporations
The US Credit Specialties team supports business throughout North America and is currently active in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Job DescriptionThe CSU Underwriter is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of specialized trade credit and political risk insurance policies while ensuring an optimal balance between premium growth and risk management.
In this position your key responsibilities will be:- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of specialized trade credit and political risk insurance policies.
- Support profitable portfolio growth while maintaining strong risk discipline.
- Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, agents, banks, and corporate clients.
- Structure and negotiate customized insurance solutions.
- Review insurance contracts and finance agreements to support bespoke client solutions.
- Contribute to business development initiatives throughout North America.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the global Credit Specialties network.
- Travel occasionally to support customers, business development activities, and internal collaboration.
The ideal candidate will have the following profile:
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a Commercial Underwriter, Account Manager, or Risk Underwriter.
- Strong financial statement analysis skills.
- Analytical ability to assess country, industry, and transaction risks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including fluency in English.
- Strong business development and relationship management capabilities.
- Experience negotiating proposals with brokers, agents, banks, and corporate clients.
- Ability to manage customer relationships with a focus on retention and profitable growth.
- Technical aptitude and attention to detail related to reporting, governance, and underwriting systems.
- Capacity to critically review insurance contracts and finance agreements and develop creative client solutions.
- Willingness to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally.
- Competitive Salary: $100,000 - $118,000 annually, dependent on experience level with a 15% bonus potential.
- Paid Time Off: 3 weeks vacation, 8 floating holidays, 6 sick days, maternity and parental leave, office closure holidays.
- Flexible Working: Hybrid model with 3 days remote and 2 days onsite.
