The Deputy Sheriff position is responsible for the enforcement of State Laws and County Ordinances, providing detention and courtroom services, patrol duty and related supportive law enforcement activities in the Sheriff’s Office. Work involves prevention, detection and investigation of accident and criminal activities, security and safety of detainees/inmates/prisoners, protection for the public and maintaining law and order. Deputies must be able to act without direct supervision in emergency situations.
Deputies will be armed and have full power of arrest.

- a. Patrols assigned area(s) to enforce State Laws and County Ordinances, conduct criminal investigations, and arrest violators when applicable.
- b. Ability to take detailed investigative notes.
- c. Write criminal incident/investigative reports and citations; document and maintain files, including using computers for reporting and retrieval of investigative information.
- d. Maintain an Activity Log, detailing calls for service, traffic stops, investigative stops/activities and other pertinent information which occurred during an assigned shift.
- e. Intervene in domestic disturbances and mental health disturbances (Crisis Intervention Techniques C.I.T.)
- f. Report for duty assignments during times of civil unrest or natural disasters.
- g. Respond to Citizen’s request(s) for assistance.
- h. Educate the public on crime prevention techniques.
- i. Process and collect evidence during a criminal investigation.
- j. Investigate illegal or suspicious activities of persons, quell disturbances, and arrest law violators.
- k. Acquires, executes, and returns warrants and search warrants.
- l. Searches and assists in locating missing/endangered missing persons or bodies.
- m. Monitor vehicle traffic on highways and roadways within the County, observe traffic violations and take the appropriate corrective action, to include the issuance of citations.
- n. Operate a radar (speed measurement) unit in patrol vehicle speed limit enforcement compliance.
- o. Operate a Mobile Data Terminal to document daily field activity, investigate criminal incidents, investigate motor vehicle crashes, and document criminal incidents and motor vehicle crashes.
- p. Assumes control at motor vehicle crash scene to maintain traffic flow, assist victims, and investigate the cause of the motor vehicle crash.
- q. Operate a patrol vehicle and be proficient with other duty related equipment, including firearms, during hours of work.
- r. Locate and place persons into custody on arrest warrants or body attachments.
- s. Transports prisoners/detainees/inmates and juveniles to and from appropriate correctional facilities, to include Court.
- t. Searches prisoners/detainees for weapons and contraband.
- u. Serves ExPartes, subpoenas and summonses, and keeps record of dispositions.
- v. Operate a two-way patrol vehicle radio or portable radio to deliver/receive precise pertinent information to other patrol units and our dispatching center.
- w. Answer/reply to telephone messages, emails, letters, or investigative requests from Prosecuting Attorneys.
- x. Provide testimony in Court.
- y. Periodically engages in vehicular pursuits to bring violators/suspects into custody to prevent property damage, injury, or death.
