Overview
The Infection Preventionist promotes patient and staff safety by identifying infection risks, developing prevention strategies, and implementing the Infection Prevention Program Plan. They collect, analyze, and report infection‑related data to clinicians, management, and the Infection Control Committee, educate staff and patients, and ensure compliance with governmental regulations.
Responsibilities- Provide direction and oversight for facility staff activities.
- Lead and facilitate the setting of facility‑wide goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Infection Prevention Program.
- Coordinate surveillance methods to monitor nosocomial infection rates with the Infection Prevention Committee.
- Collaborate with Employee Health on preventive health and wellness services for employees.
- Facilitate the establishment and bi‑annual review of departmental written infection‑prevention policies and procedures.
- Coordinate infection‑prevention education in collaboration with Nursing Education, Department Directors, and Human Resources, acting as a consultant to all clinical areas.
- Report to the Regional and/or System Director of Infection Prevention.
- Participate in professional meetings, educational programs, workshops, and membership in professional associations.
- Serve as administrative chair of the Infection Control Committee and facilitate related sub‑committees.
- Represent the facility on patient safety and other hospital committees.
- Interpret and implement infection‑control standards of care recommended by governmental and accrediting agencies.
- Use effective interpersonal skills in all interactions and perform duties consistent with ARH’s care philosophy.
- Oversee the collection and reporting of hospital‑acquired infection data as required by law and regulations.
- Maintain and validate all data for accuracy and database reliability.
- Meet internal and external reporting requirement time frames.
- Facilitate collaborative teams to develop and implement action plans that reduce hospital‑acquired infections.
- Travel to other ARH facilities as needed to cover for IP staff absences or to address outbreaks and rapid needs.
- Associate’s Degree in a related field with experience in Infection Prevention (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with current license (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree with current ASCP certification in Clinical Laboratory Science (preferred).
- 4–6 Years of relevant experience (preferred).
- Mastery of problem solving and decision‑making.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork.
- Growth mindset and aptitude for continuous improvement.
- Execution and delivery planning and support.
- Evaluation of costs and benefits for decision making.
- Functioning in a diverse clinical environment.
- Knowledge of care transitions and available resources.
- Digital literacy.
- CIC (CBIC) Certification in Infection Prevention.
