Join to apply for the Registered Nurse Tier 1 (Union) role at Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH). This is a full‑time, entry‑level position within the health‑care provider function of the Hospitals and Health Care industry.
OverviewThe Registered Nurse requires substantial specialized knowledge, judgement and nursing skills based upon the principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences. The RN must collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; provide physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervise assigned team members and students.
Responsibilities- Completes patient assessments, formulates plan of care, oversees implementation of plan, evaluates and adjusts plan using critical thinking skills.
- Performs nursing acts authorized or limited by the board and consistent with American Nursing Association Standards of Practice or similar national standards.
- Provides care, counseling, health teaching, and promotion, utilizing Teach‑Back methodology to confirm comprehension.
- Administers medication, IV therapy, and other treatments as prescribed by an LIP.
- Supervises, delegates, and follows through with other personnel in activities relating to nursing care.
- Mentors and precepts students and orients new staff.
- Reports pertinent information up the command chain to the Clinical Nurse Manager/Nurse Manager/House Nurse Coordinator.
- Participates on teams, committees, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, coworkers, and self.
- Participates in discharge planning and transition of care, defining patient needs.
- Acts as a patient advocate and escalates concerns in a timely manner.
- Documents findings promptly in the medical record.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living and works as an active team member.
- Assumes responsibility for personnel professional development.
- Uses effective communication skills, active listening, compassion, and empathy.
- Practices hands‑off communication using SBAR and performs bedside shift reporting.
- Serves as a positive influence, role model, and adheres to professional code of conduct.
- Respects dignity and confidentiality of all patient matters.
- References the Special Addendum and Staff Nurse Position Description as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.
- Associate’s Degree Required.
- Mastery of problem solving and decision‑making skills.
- Mastery of collaboration and teamwork.
- Mastery of growth mindset (agility and development of self and others).
- Mastery of execution and delivery (planning, delivering, and supporting).
- Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Ability to function in a clinical setting with diverse cultural dynamics of staff and patients.
- Mastery of knowledge of phases of care transitions and available resources for patients.
- Mastery of digital literacy skills.
- Registered Nurse license required.
- BLS certification upon hire required.
- De‑Escalation Training within 6 months of hire required.
- Advanced Dysrhythmia/EKG (Med/Surg telemetry unit ONLY) required.
