Generic Specialist Practitioner - Respiratory – Virtual Wards

Responsibilities- Contribute and act as a skilled advisor and resource as a member of a multidisciplinary team, providing a coordinated approach to service delivery.
- Have the autonomy to act and accept responsibility and accountability for actions; decision making based on detailed knowledge and understanding of the area of practice.
- Admit, refer and discharge patients with the potential to allocate and/or delegate clinical activity and interventions as required within the clinical specialist role.
- Be accountable for standards of care and deliver these within the context of clinical governance to ensure the highest evidence‑based standards of practice.
- Continuously develop and apply specialist knowledge and skills; demonstrate professional competence and ongoing personal development, and develop others.
- Provide specialist expertise and advice which informs service development.
- Deputise for senior staff in their absence.
- Represent NHS Lanarkshire at national/strategic meetings relating to the specialty.
- Registered Nurse or AHP with valid NMC/HCPC registration.
- Educated to degree level.
- Postgraduate qualification at a minimum of Level 10 (Hons) or working towards.
- Expertise within speciality/area of practice that demonstrates breadth of knowledge to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality/area of practice.
- Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures; level of expertise to deliver leadership in the area.
- Leadership skills to enable the day‑to‑day management of service delivery.
- Evidence of continuous professional development in the area of speciality (e.g., study days, courses, postgraduate qualification).
- Excellent team‑working/leadership skills and ability to motivate others, work using own initiative.
- Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective time‑management skills.
- Working knowledge of basic information technology.
- Prescribing level 10.
- Clinical decision making level 10.
- Strong background in anatomy and physiology.
- Relevant expert practice in the specialty (Respiratory).
- Evidence of recent personal contribution to service planning and redesign projects.
- Experience navigating current and new IT systems within NHS Lanarkshire.
- Ability to plan and organise workload within a busy service under job plans and NHS policies.
- Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively across professional boundaries and stakeholders.
- Ability to monitor effectiveness of own and others’ clinical practice through quality assurance strategies such as audit, peer review and clinical supervision.
- Awareness of national and local healthcare policies.
- Ability to undertake specialist clinics within NHS Lanarkshire policies/knowledge/skills.
A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence is required.
Contract and Working Pattern- Contract type:
Permanent. - Full time, 37 hours.
- Based in Respiratory – Virtual Wards at Kirklands – NHS Lanarkshire Headquarters.
- Working pattern: 7‑day working rota.
- Potential consideration for similar vacancies in alternative locations.
- Minimum 27 days annual leave, increasing with length of service.
