Institutional Recreation Leader I
Commonwealth of Kentucky is hiring for the Institutional Recreation Leader I position at Thomson‑Hood Veterans Center, a 285‑bed long‑term care facility that has served over 2,782 Veterans from all branches of the armed forces since August 25, 1991. Thomson‑Hood is the largest facility operated by the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs.
Pay RangeBase pay: $16.65/hr – $16.65/hr (inclusive of a Locality Premium of $3.35).
Responsibilities- Plans, organizes and conducts therapeutic recreation programs and activities within the recreation program for an institution.
- Completes quarterly reviews on each resident to monitor their recreational needs and participation.
- Develops treatment plans to meet residents individual needs and attends treatment team meetings.
- Organizes and supervises recreational outings including supervision of residents, staff and volunteers involved in outings.
- Completes initial assessments on new residents to assess their therapeutic recreational needs.
- Directs activity aides during therapeutic recreational outings and maintains therapeutic recreational calendars for assigned unit.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, special education or a related field.

Experience in planned recreation, physical education, special education or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Working ConditionsTypically works in an institutional or hospital facility. Job is of a moderate physical nature and often involves outdoor settings conducting recreational activities usually with hospital patients or inmates.
