Human Resources Manager – Hawesville Mill
The HR Manager for Domtar’s Paper & Packaging Division is a member of the Mill Leadership team, reporting directly to the Divisional HR Director with a dotted line to the Mill General Manager.
As an HR Business Partner to the General Manager, this position collaborates to deliver Domtar’s strategic and operational objectives, aligned with human capital plans. The role requires strategic thinking to drive change within the business and also provides full‑cycle Human Resource support to leaders, employees, and union partners.
Key responsibilities include leading all HR functions to achieve mill strategic goals, acting as a change agent for culture evolution and process improvement, and forging strong relationships across the organization.
Job Responsibilities / Accountabilities Business Partnership- Collaborate with leadership to align human capital objectives with overall strategic and operational goals, delivering financial results.
- Provide leadership by understanding key financial and operational metrics and monitoring trends.
- Ensure a team‑based work environment that fosters a performance culture aligned with Domtar values.
- Lead change management, emphasizing operations and productivity improvements.
- Lead all labor relations functions, including negotiations, grievance resolution, arbitrations, and collective bargaining.
- Maintain a positive partnership with union leadership for sustainable operations.
- Investigate and resolve complex employee relations issues and coach managers through performance management.
- Lead succession planning and build a talent culture.
- Coach leaders on performance reviews and plans.
- Conduct local recruitment and partner with universities to strengthen branding.
- Motivate and engage HR direct reports in alignment with divisional strategy.
- Administer compensation and performance evaluation programs.
- Develop and maintain affirmative action program.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial employment regulations.
- Manage local records and reporting in HRIS and workforce management systems.
- Strong understanding of financial metrics and HR metrics development.
- Analytical skills and timely decision‑making.
- Excellent communication at all organizational levels.
- Change agent who collaborates effectively.
- Influential leadership and conflict resolution abilities.
- Proven success leading HR strategies from inception to implementation.
- High prioritization, accuracy, organization, and communication.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required;
Master’s preferred. - 7–10 years of experience in manufacturing, supporting both non‑union and union environments.
- Strong change‑management skills.
- Experience coaching managers and employees for skill development.
- Conflict resolution, relationship building, and performance management skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
Outlook knowledge preferred.
