- Ensure all documents comply with court formatting standards and local filing rules and file documents with appropriate courts in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prepare, serve, track, and follow up on subpoenas; communicate with providers, record custodians, vendors, and other third parties to obtain records and monitor compliance.
- Assist with discovery, including drafting requests and responses, organizing productions, maintaining document indexes, and supporting electronic document review.
- Conduct factual and legal research and summarize findings for attorney review.
- Draft and proofread correspondence, pleadings, discovery materials, chronologies, damages summaries, and other litigation documents.
- Review records, bills, case files, and other evidence, and prepare organized case-reference materials.
- Maintain litigation calendars and tracking systems for court dates, discovery deadlines, depositions, and internal milestones.
- Support motion practice, depositions, hearings, and trials by preparing exhibits, witness materials, trial binders, questionnaires, PowerPoint presentations, and related logistics.
- Communicate professionally with clients, witnesses, courts, vendors, and outside counsel, and maintain organized physical and electronic case files and databases.
Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Experience:
5-8 years of litigation paralegal experience.
Skills and Abilities
To succeed in this role, an individual will need a robust set of skills and qualifications, including:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and collaboratively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of legal terminology, litigation procedures, court rules, and common legal-document formats.
- Ability to conduct legal and factual research and prepare concise summaries for attorney review.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and PDF software; experience with Net Documents, Westlaw, LEXIS, or litigation-support platforms (such as Relativity) is a plus.
- Experience with electronic court filing (such as PACER and NYSCEF) is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate files, records, calendars, and tracking systems.
- Professional, reliable, discreet, and collaborative demeanor, with the ability to work in the office on a daily basis as required.
- Ability to sit for extended period of time.
- Ability to keyboard for extended period of time.
- Ability to travel to event locations and other offices
- Ability to deal with stress due to workload pressures.
The target base pay range for this role in New York is $85K-$105K and is dependent on experience and other relevant factors, including geography.
