Job Summary

The Director of Financial Aid provides leadership, administration, and strategic direction for the college’s financial aid programs. The position ensures compliance with federal, state, accreditation, and institutional regulations while ensuring excellent service to students. The Director oversees financial aid operations, supervises staff, manages budgets, and collaborates with internal and external partners to advance college goals. This position can work on any campus.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all financial aid programs, including Title IV federal aid, state programs, institutional aid, and scholarships.
  • Ensure accurate and current information is maintained in the Electronic Application (E-App) and Eligibility and Certification Approval Report (ECAR).
  • Manage the recertification of the Program Participation Agreement (PPA).
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Lead Financial Aid audit and accreditation preparation for federal, state, institutional, and accrediting body reviews; serve as the primary financial aid liaison.
  • Lead the financial aid components of the college’s Second Chance Pell initiative, supporting the transition to an approved Prison Education Program (PEP) in coordination with academic, correctional, and compliance partners.
  • Oversee Financial Aid Office operations, including supervising staff, assigning tasks, training, performance management, and service delivery.
  • Lead the Financial Aid Department’s annual unit planning and budgeting process.
  • Oversee financial aid processes to ensure regulatory compliance while delivering high-quality, responsive service to students, including counseling related to eligibility, satisfactory academic progress, appeals, and Return of Title IV requirements.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for professional judgment decisions, including dependency overrides and special or unusual circumstances, recalculation of student aid, and budget adjustments to aid packages and cost of attendance, in accordance with federal guidelines and documented student need.
  • Collaborate closely with the Business Office to support student account monitoring and billing coordination, helping reduce financial barriers and support student persistence.
  • Collaborate with other college departments to support college enrollment and retention goals.
  • Ensure departmental participation in financial aid outreach and collaborative efforts, including presentations, workshops, campus events, and partnerships with high schools, community organizations, and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate in and help lead the college’s default management efforts, including strategy development, implementation support, and coordination with loan servicers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Working knowledge of financial aid systems and processes.
  • 5+ years relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in supervisory or leadership roles.
  • 3-4 years direct financial aid work experience.
  • Previous experience in a community college setting.
