Portfolio Manager – Impact Investing

Baltimore Community Foundation (BCF) is a philanthropic foundation created by and for the people of Greater Baltimore, serving as a vehicle through which donors can make the city and region a better place for today and future generations. Established in 1972, BCF has grown into one of the Baltimore region’s most prominent foundations, with assets exceeding $350 million and more than 950 charitable funds.

The foundation has granted nearly $800 million since its inception and manages the distribution of more than 5,000 gifts and grants annually to support a wide range of issues affecting the Baltimore region. BCF is accredited by the Council on Foundations’ National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations, demonstrating its commitment to best practices and accountability in the philanthropic sector. The foundation partners with philanthropic individuals, families, and companies to direct charitable resources strategically throughout the community.

Despite managing substantial assets, BCF maintains a lean organizational structure with fewer than 25 core staff members, fostering a culture that emphasizes reliability, hard work, collaboration, and accountability. Over the past several years, BCF has doubled its assets under management and has elevated its role as one of the region’s most prominent civic leaders, grantors, and impact investors. The foundation is positioned for greater growth and impact as it anticipates the launch of its new strategic direction in 2027, leveraging a community of passionate donors and changemakers dedicated to building a better Baltimore.

The Portfolio Manager – Impact Investing will report directly to the President/CEO and work collaboratively across all departments within the organization. This position plays a central role in implementing and monitoring an effective impact investing program that aligns with BCF’s mission and strategic objectives. The role involves working with other departments and external partners to develop impact investing recommendations for the President/CEO and governance bodies while developing impact frameworks and reports for BCF’s impact investing, discretionary grantmaking, and related areas.

Success in this role requires a comprehensive skill set that includes knowledge of financial due diligence and deal structuring, understanding of social impact frameworks, strong technical abilities, sound judgment, and excellent written and oral communication capabilities. The Portfolio Manager will be instrumental in advancing BCF’s commitment to directing capital toward investments that generate both financial returns and measurable social impact for the Baltimore region.

• Implements BCF’s Invest for More program, including the full life cycle of deals in the portfolio to assess and render financial due diligence, social impact evaluations, and impact measurement and reporting
• Serves as project manager for the interdepartmental impact investing and learning and insights work groups, and their respective proceedings
• Supports the development of presentations and case studies related to Invest for More as well as insights and reporting
• Assists in the maintenance and enhancement of internal data management systems, project management tools, and client delivery templates
• Analyzes and aids in the production of impact reports based on both quantitative and qualitative analysis across impact investing, discretionary grantmaking and related work
• Helps to drive best practices and good decision-making in supporting the stewardship and integrity of funds deployed by BCF
